Channels of Mercy – 2016 ACPA Conference final program

The Australasian Catholic Press Association Annual Conference 2016 will be held at Rydges Sydney Central from 5-7 September. The theme for this year’s conference is Channels of Mercy.

10.30am Session #2: Getting to know you

Get to know your fellow delegates. Facilitated by Anneliese Rohr from Broome Diocese.

11.15am Session #3: Advocating mercy in a land of judgement
Keynote Speaker –
Marcelle Mogg, Chief Executive Officer, Catholic Social Services Australia.

12pm Session #4: Sharing stories of mercy

Panel discussion: Margaret Wiseman (prison chaplaincy), Margaret Ng (human trafficking) and Mary Leahy (seafarers’ chaplaincy)

12.50 Lunch

1.30pm Excursion

Captain Cook Sydney Harbour excursion

Bus departs 1.30pm from Rydges for 2pm cruise of the Sydney Harbour – departs from Circular Quay – refreshments provided, bar on board.

5pm Return to hotel. Delegates’ own arrangements for dinner.

Presentations and Q&A with Father Brian Lucas, Catholic Mission; Kirsty Robertson, Mary MacKillop Institute and Paul O’Callaghan, Caritas Australia.

11.45am Session #6: Latest trends in communications

Hear from a panel of leading media professionals about how to communicate effectively in the digital age. Shane Healy, Melbourne Archdiocese, Mark Bowling, Brisbane Archdiocese, and Nicole Clements, Caritas Australia.

12.30 pm Lunch

1.30pm – 3pm Session #7: Walk to Missionaries of Charity convent in Surry Hills to hear Sr Maria Lucy talk about Mother Teresa. 7 minute walk from Rydges Hotel. 

5pm Conference Mass at St Mary MacKillop Chapel

Bus departs from hotel at approx. 4pm for annual ACPA Mass in Mary MacKillop Chapel, celebrated by Bishop Anthony Randazzo, Sydney Auxiliary Bishop.

6 –10.30pm Conference Dinner & ACPA Awards for Excellence
